Choosing the Right Lampshade Size and Shape
A practical measuring method for harp height, fitter type and proportion.
Proportion is what separates a considered lamp from an awkward one.
A simple measuring method
- Shade height should be roughly two-thirds the height of the lamp base.
- Shade width should be about twice the width of the widest part of the base.
- The bottom of the shade should hide the socket and bulb entirely.
Fitter types
Spider fitters sit on a harp, uno fitters thread onto the socket, and clip fitters grip the bulb itself. Matching the fitter is not optional — bring the lamp or a photo of the socket area.
Harp height
Changing the harp by an inch often solves a shade that looks fractionally wrong. We stock a range and can fit one while you wait.
